With the buzz around Smart Cities, Tuba Kocaturk’s MInD Lab at Deakin University investigates the ways that technologies can actually be used to make smart cities work.

Living the philosophy of “real world problems do not know disciplines”, Tuba begins by defining the real problems faced by the world, and bringing together the multiple disciplines required to achieve a solution. This could include bringing together digital tools and 3D visualisation and architecture, and other disciplines needed to reach an answer that is realistically achievable.

Tuba Kocaturk and her team are working to achieve exactly that, developing the ways people, technology and materials will interact in the built environments of the future.

To her, it’s all about creating new experiences at that point where they all meet.

However, it’s not just an architectural process. “We’re all creating our environment with the ways we act and behave and move and interact with the built environment,” she says.
