SCINEMA International Film Festival, STEM-based films for your school
What is SCINEMA? And how does it work?
SCINEMA is the largest science film festival in the southern hemisphere showcasing the best in science cinema from around the world. SCINEMA is a celebration of the power of the moving image to inspire the young, satisfy the curious, explain the baffling and ask the impossible.
During August, to coincide with National Science Week, you can host your own, completely free, SCINEMA screening. This means you get free access to one or more of the curated playlists available, to be shown in your front room, local community hall, school gym – or wherever you are inspired to host a screening.
Films available cover a range of topics, with playlists focusing on Animals or Space, Sci-fi or Numbers for example. Or you could decide to watch all of the films on offer in a huge smorgasbord of science video heaven. There are dedicated playlists for Primary and Secondary schools, with both long and short programs for both.
Make your viewing as large and as grand as you like, there are printable posters to help advertise your event (here). Register as a private event at your school or in your lounge room (only your invited guests will know about it), – or make your event public to really share the science love around – your event will be listed on the National Science Week website so others can connect with you, for example at a local community screening in a public hall.
So don’t delay – get involved and bring some science film brilliance to your part of Australia!
