D.I.Y Science – Make your own Rocket

The D.I.Y. Science series contains some of our favourite experiments for kids to try at home. They are designed to help school teachers and carers inspire a child’s curiosity in science. It’s time to get hands-on.

This episode shows students how to make their own rocket that launches using the gases emitted by a chemical reaction – just like the real thing!

It is best suited to Years 7 -10 Chemistry and Physics students who are learning about chemical reactions and Newton’s Laws of Motion.

What you’ll need:

1 x cup of tap water
1 x cup of white vinegar
2 x plastic cups
1 x box of Bicarb soda
1 x teaspoon
1 x pair of safety goggles
1 x empty film canister with a tight-fitting lid
